Considerations to Take When Auto Shipping

A few considerations need to be taken when selecting a somebody to ship your car for you. Auto shipping can be scary at times. Anything you can do to put yourself at ease helps. Writing out things that the shipping company needs to meet be helpful to consider doing. It is important to find a good quality shipper.
Many car collectors know of the better companies to do business with. A site on the net that reviews different shippers is more than likely available. The business should probably come with a long history as well as a good reputation.
Insurance is also very important to know about before your vehicle is shipped. The business needs to insure your asset while it is in their possession. Do not be afraid to ask them questions about their insurance policy. Get signed paperwork stating they are insured and that your asset will be covered if an accident were to take place.
Make sure that you get paperwork stating that the company is responsible for your car from the time they pick it up to the time they drop it off. If your car is of high value and something goes wrong a company could try to find a glitch in the agreement and get out of paying for your vehicle. Shipping a car can be very expensive and it is important to protect yourself.
Do not be afraid to be a little nosey with the shipper of your car. Ask any questions that you can possible think of. A quality shipper will do every thing that they can to ensure you are comfortable shipping your vehicle through them. They will understand that you are worried and should be used to dealing with your concern.
If your car is worth enough money the seller may handle the shipping by themselves. If you are spending enough money to have the car shipped they may pay for the charges themselves. The price of the car may include shipping charges. This could be nice because the dealership and the shipper may insure the cars safe arrival. If you are buying a car worth a thousand dollars and paying another thousand to have it shipped it probably is not worth purchasing. When purchasing a vehicle online it is important to take shipping costs in consideration.
Overseas shipment is often times a hassle. The states have not only smog standards but they also have strict safety standards. A car that is safe in another country may not be considered safe here in the states. It is also important to take the import taxes into consideration. These costs can be very high at times. You would not want to purchase a car overseas only to find that you cannot take it home with you.
Insurance is probably the most important thing to consider. It is important that you are taken care of in the event that an accident does happen. Cars are expensive and it is important to protect that money.

The 2011 Ford Expedition

Large SUV’s are popular for many reasons; they can haul a large number of people around plus they provide lots of cargo space for sporting and camping equipment or any other gear you may have. One of the standouts in this market is the Ford Expedition; a large vehicle with sufficient room to seat eight of your best friends. In addition, the cargo space can be expanded to a whopping 131 cubic feet. Other big players in this segment include the Yukon by GMC and the Tahoe by Chevy.
There are two different styling options available; XLT and XLT premium. The premium option comes with sweet features such as a black interior, body color grille and blacked out headlamps. Unfortunately Ford’s SYNC system is not standard but it can be added at a price. The SYNC system allows you to change radio stations and utilize the phone via Bluetooth by voice. This allows for maximum safety since you can focus on the road ahead and don’t need to fumble with any knobs or buttons. If you have to drive around a lot of people on a regular basis then the Expedition would be a great choice; this auto has enough room for eat people. With the third row of seats folded back; the cargo area can be expanded to 131 cubic feet. The third row of seats can easily be folded down to maximize space. A liftgate is in place which can even be used to haul up heavy groceries.
Fuel economy isn’t the best but what can you expect when the Expedition weighs in at over five thousand pounds; 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the freeway. However, that is to be expected with such a big SUV. Horsepower stands at 310 hp and torque is at 365 lb feet; adequate muscle to power this massive automobile around the city due to the impressive V8 5.4 Liter engine. Acceleration is smooth, however things can get bogged down a bit if loaded to capacity. The Expedition’s strong point is its towing abilities; it can tow up to 9,200 lbs.
Let’s take a look at all the extensive safety features. Standard traction control adjusts engine power and braking during critical moments in order to maintain control. You can open the doors even if you don’t have your keys handy thanks to the cool keyless entry pad. All it takes is entering the pre-designated code and the doors unlock. This can be rather convenient if you have misplaced your keys. All disc brakes ensure that this SUV has ample of stopping power. Other safety mechanisms include a comprehensive air bag system and rain sensor wipers which start working immediately when it detects rain or snow. A safety syste, is in place which activates the horn and turns on the emergency lights if the vehicle is involved in an accident.
The Ford Expedition is priced to sell at around $37k. If you are in need of a large SUV and have a ton of items to store then the Expedition could be a good fit. The gas mileage numbers are a minus but that’s a given considering how big and powerful this vehicle is. If you’ve got a large family or just need a lot of room then the Ford Expedition is one vehicle you will definitely want to explore

MG MGA Twin-Cam Vintage Automobiles

The MGA Twin Cam is a classic among sports car buffs and not just British sports auto enthusiasts. On top of that the MG in its various forms may have inspired a wrath of vehicles on the road and race tracks – for example the Mazda Miata series. Yet what is the history and what are the origins of this landmark automobile?
It seems that by the mid 1950’s. MG’s sports cars were looking thoroughly “old fashioned” but the introduction of the MGA in 1955 sure changed all of that in a flash. All it all it was pointed out by die hard enthusiasts that only a few front suspension parts were carried over from the obsolete TF1500, while there was an all-new box-section chassis frame, a sleek and aerodynamic two-seater body style and to top it off the engine was a tuned version of BMC’s new B-series standard design, matched to the corporate gear box and back axle. It was something of a miracle therefore , that the MGA had so much character – it could nearly reach 100 miles per hour , was amazingly refined and comfortable, and had beautiful satisfying handling and road holding.
Right from the start MG’s John Thornley wanted to get a new car into competition and thus he did his best to encourage the development of a new high-performance twin overhead camshaft engine to make this vision possible. Two different new engines appeared at the Tourist Trophy Race of 1955, and one of them (designed by Morris Engines in Coventry themselves) was eventually developed into a production unit. Among its other competition uses was that, in a highly supercharged form, it powered MG’s mid engine record car, EX181 which achieved more than 250 mph at the Utah Salt Flats in 1959.
The MGA Twin-Cam was announced in the summer of 1958 and was available in an open Roadster or bubble-top Coupe form – the Coupe having glass wind-up windows and a small but perfect habitable, saloon car. Not only did the car have the twin-overhead-camshaft-engine, which was effectively an extensively modified version of the MGA’s normal pushrod overhead valve engine, though at the time, the basic engine was only 108 barrel horse power, but it also had four-wheel disc brakes and was fitted with unique center-lock steel disc wheel of a type fitted to D-Type Jaguars and BRM Grand Prix cars.
Twin cams were always expensive, and had been known to finicky to service and maintain, but this ought to have been matched by a top speed capability of 115 mph and acceleration to match, if but only the automobiles had been reliable. The problem basically put was that in the early days the engine gained a reputation for oil-burning holes in pistons if they ran on inferior brands of petrol (cheap gas). However by the time remedial action was taken (and it was taken fortuitously) for indeed later Twin-Cam series were extremely nice and very desirable cars to own, the brand and model’s reputation had been shot to ribbons. Production which began in earnest in the autumn of 1958 was running rapidly by the end of 1959 and the last was built fully months later.
Between 1060 and 1962 , when the separate MGA family was dropped in favor of the monocoque MGB, a series of rather mysterious MGA 1600 De Luxe models were also built – which were effectively Twin-Cam chassis, with the disc brakes and the special wheel, but without the expensive and specialized twin cam engines. A grand total of 2,111 Twin-Cams and 395 De Luxes were built and the surviving cars are now highly prized collector items. The special engine was the only twin-overhead-camshaft unit ever fitted to an MG motor car, and the experiment has never been repeated.
Such goes life and the automotive industry. Yet this ground breaking car and its models have had major impacts on the automotive industry and its varied products to this day in 2011.

Finding the Best Auto Transport Provider

Vehicles typically have a lot of value and it is important that the tow company handles your car correctly. Different measures need to be taken to assure that your car arrives safely. Many towing services are available when you are having your vehicle towed. The distance you will be sending the vehicle greatly affects the auto transport service that you hire.
The tow company must agree to be liable for any damages that occur during the transportation of the car. They should be willing to take full responsibility of your car. Make sure the company fits your towing needs. A different company will be needed if shipping to a different state. Shipping out of state is a completely different process than shipping a vehicle locally.
Bring to the drivers attention, any problems that you see when your car is being prepared for transportation. A tow company probably will not take as much care with your vehicle as you would. Improper loading or unloading could cause unnecessary damage to your car. Do not be afraid to stop the driver if you see something wrong.
Depending on the quality of your car you may need a specific tow truck to transport the car. A truck that tows your car behind the truck may not be acceptable if your car is of a higher value. A flatbed tow truck may be needed to tow your car. It is important that you specify that with the tow company before they send a truck out. Some companies are able to offer an enclosed trailer which you may want to consider if your car is very valuable.
Some vehicles are too low to the ground to load without taking special measures. If your car is lower to the ground you are probably want to make sure that the car does not bottom out. The driver of the truck also needs to be aware of this. If you have a highly detailed undercarriage bottoming the car out could cause significant damage.
A company that tows junk cars all day may not be the best company to handle your vehicle. You do not want the driver to track grease inside your car either. Most areas have tow truck businesses that are set up to transport cars of higher value. These types of companies know how to ship vehicles with out causing any damage to them.
If you are shipping something of great value it is important that the transport company be insured. Most companies are but if your car is worth a lot of money you may want to make sure they have enough insurance to cover the cost of your car.
The only case that you would suggest shopping around for the best price is if the car you have is not of a high value. Other wise you would be more concerned with the quality of auto transport rather than the price they charge for towing your vehicle.

Effective Guidelines For Cutting Auto Insurance Costs

Whether you call it auto insurance in English or assurance auto in French, dealing with coverage for your vehicle can be a bit overwhelming. If you own a vehicle, it's mandated by most areas that you are an insured driver. Here you'll find a number of tips to help you control expenses when buying such coverage.
Sometimes people overlook how much their deductibles are on their policies. Review this with your carrier. Raising the deductible can save you money on your policy. However, you should remember that when you raise the deductible in case of an accident you're responsible for paying this amount before the coverage on the policy takes over costs. Have a cash reserve set aside for the amount of the deductible if you decide to raise it.
Check out what you're paying for towing costs. In most cases when you're regularly maintaining your car, have a spare key in case you lock yourself out, have a spare tire and know how to change it, you can save on towing costs. A little extra caution will help bring down your monthly premium. However, if you're prone on forgetting your keys inside the car and are often stranded on the side of the road you may want to consider keeping this option.
Before you buy your next car, check out how much it will cost to cover. Do not assume that just because you're buying a smaller car it will cost less to insure. On the contrary, some small cars are pretty expensive to insure. The cost of insuring a vehicle will depend on a number of factors including its durability. Shop around for coverage before your next vehicle purchase. This will help you budget your finances accordingly.
If you carry more than one type of coverage like renter's or home owner's coverage, buy it all from the same carrier. When you purchase all of your coverage from the same place you're more likely to get a bundle deal. This will help bring down the costs of coverage and it will make life a bit easier only having one company to deal with on all matters.
Avoid paying in monthly installments. If you plan ahead you can save your money and pay in larger chunks. When you pay in installments most carriers will charge a fee. You can save yourself from paying these fees by saving ahead of time. Also keep in mind defensive driving courses. Most carriers will offer discounts for individuals who partake in such courses.
Think carefully when buying accessories for your car. Whenever you invest in your vehicle if you're involved in an accident most of the time carriers do not pay equal value for the vehicle. So even if you've invested a lot of money in the car with accessories you'll most likely only receive market value.
Auto insurance is a part of life most drivers have to deal with, and being prepared makes the process a little easier. Use the above mentioned tips to help guide the process. Consider what your needs are and what you can do without, this will help bring down your costs while keeping your safety in mind.

Changes Made to NHTSA 5-Star Rating System

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been performing their New Car Assessment Program, perhaps better known as the Five-Star Safety Rating System, since 1978. However, this year they have decided to shake things up and have drastically revised the system. This will mark the first year that vehicles will receive an overall score, which will make vehicle comparisons easier for consumers. The NHTSA has also implemented additional tests. Due to the major changes, 2011 model ratings will not be comparable to previous model years, and the ratings are not likely to be shown on new vehicles for at least a few more weeks, if not longer.
One major change to the test is the addition of a small female dummy. In years past, a medium-sized male dummy was used in all tests to stand for all drivers. However, the NHTSA realized that this did not properly represent the American population. The new dummy is being used to symbolize smaller women and children, and injuries sustained to this dummy will be compared to those of the larger, since women and children are likely to be affected differently than men in an accident due to their size. The new dummy will also be equipped with additional sensors to measure injury data.
The NHTSA has also enhanced the crash tests with the addition of a side pole test. This new assessment involves a vehicle colliding with a 25-centimeter-wide pole, which is being used to represent narrow stationary objects that vehicles may collide with, such as trees and telephone poles. The other tests performed by the NHTSA are more or less unchanged, but the additional dummy will provide more thorough data. After each test, a full injury assessment of the dummy will be performed, taking note of the impact to the head, chest, lower spine, pelvis, and abdomen.
Another new feature will be the disclosure of whether or not vehicles are equipped with crash-avoidance technology. Although the inclusion of technologies such as electronic stability control, a lane departure warning system, or forward-collision warning system will not affect the final score, consumers will be made aware of the whether or not these features are available on their vehicle, which will help with comparisons to other vehicles, and may ultimately influence their buying decision.
This year, new models will also be awarded an overall score for the first time, based on their scores on each category. Every category will weigh in differently, and the new overall rating will make it easier for consumers to compare vehicles. In the past, consumers had to compare each score individually, and determine which scores outweighed the others, since there was nothing to tie them together.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made the decision to update the test because they feel that after several years of being tested in the same way, automakers have figured out the protocol, and know exactly what they need to do to earn a top rating. Last year, almost every vehicle tested earned 4- or 5-star ratings, ultimately leading the NHTSA to conclude that it was time to raise the standards.
