Are You Really What You Drive?

Submitted By: Jacqueline Star

Certain vehicles give immediate insight into the driver. For example, it’s obvious that a police officer would drive a police car and a paramedic an ambulance truck. Their vehicles are a symbol of who they are and what they do.
Many individual don’t consider a car simply as simply a means of getting them from one point to another. A vehicle can be interpreted as a symbol and an expression of who they are. It says something about their lifestyle. It might say something about their financial status and prestige. It can even give you a glimpse of what is important to them as in the example of a driver of a hybrid vehicle. These people most likely don’t care about status and are more concerned with the well-being of the planet and fuel consumption.
Families may pick either a SUV or a minivan due to its seating capacity, roominess, practicality and functionality. These vehicles also come with lots of storage room. They may like the added comfort of a DVD player and lots of cup holders.
Some shoppers gravitate towards high end brands such as BMW, Jaguar, Porsche and Mercedes Benz. The choice of these vehicles is certainly based on a reputation of quality and luxury but is also influenced by a desire to express status. The fact is that these vehicles can be easily financed or leased and as a result they don’t necessarily portray wealth. Many shoppers choose to lease vehicles that they would not be able to afford outright.
When it comes to loyalty, no other demographic is quite as loyal as truck drivers. These purchasers may use their trucks for work and may base their purchase on the same criteria with which they pick the other tools they use. They may have a parent that only drove a Chevy and so they are part of a “Chevy Family”.
Smart shoppers are choosing to select from used or pre-owned vehicles. They are motivated by savings and the knowledge that if they were to purchase a new car the minute they drove off the lot the car would lose value, so why not reduce that loss.
The process of buying a car can be a bit harrowing. Choosing how much to spend, which brand to go with and the model type can all be a bit much, but whatever car you choose keep in mind it really is just a vehicle to get you from point A to point B. If you ever think that you really are what you drive, stop and think of Sam Walton. Sam was the founder of Wal-Mart and listed as one of the richest people in the world according to Forbes. Do you know what kind of car Sam drove? Sam's car of choice was his reliable 1988 Ford F-150. Goes to show you that you can’t judge a driver by the kind of car he or she drives.
